Social Security General Treasury headquarters in Motril.

In Motril, Granada, raises up the newest headquarters of the Social Security General Treasury aiming to address the needs of larger space requirement in the area for the institution. The project, commissioned to Erisur Arquitectura, with the architect Esperanza Romeu at the helm, is envisaged as the construction of a building with a noticeable square section, with one of its corners chamfered with a curving line and 35x30m2 approx. dimensions. The building consists of two basement floors, a first floor, two office floors, coffer and roof. The needs requirements are, therefore, three floors above ground for administrative use and two basements below ground for parking and storage space.

The overall objective and focus of the project, as the architect Romeu cooments, “has not been to find a fitted and fixed answer to the current organizational structure of the Social Security Administration, but to achieve a flexible administrative building, with the character of an institutional representation, whose adequate arrangement of the space will allow it to adapt to future and on-going changes of its functional structure.”

All this requires a highly resistant and durable configuration of materials and solutions that are able to respond to such needs and expectations. For this, Romeu has counted on the specialized and technical work of POLYGROUP, as well as Grupo GUBIA, specialists in wood and bamboo, who have collaborated in the planning and execution of an interior public and office space that is as functional as it is designer.

One of the keys to the project is undoubtedly hidden in the combination of the accessible flooring (essential for this type of spaces) and its bamboo finish, which, thanks to its linear grain, has ensured visual continuity between floor and walls.

A raised flooring that goes well and contributes to the aesthetics

As for the office space in question, the chosen access flooring is one of the most important points of the project. Searching for functionality and greater efficiency with a floor that complied with all the regulations, was accessible -so that it could take in the installations-, as well as pairing in with the aesthetics, was the main premise. For this reason, the architecture studio chose POLYGROUP’s advanced solutions, who also took part in the designing phase drafting the specifications and contributing with exclusively designed high-quality materials.

Specifically, the raised access flooring installed in the 2.000m2 that make up this great working space has been GAMAFLOR PAC, manufactured with high density wood particles core, galvanized steel bottom sheet and finished with vertical bamboo. The company has created such a finish with the new SOVEREIGN TECH system, which allows hiding the edges of the access floor tiles providing a homogenous aesthetic, where the joints are hardly noticeable and promotes the continuous design that the architecture studio was looking for the project.

This homogenous, continuous look was another reason why bamboo was chosen as the floor finishing. In contrast with what could be achieved with traditional hardwood floors, bamboo has a lineal grain that allowed to drag the continuity aesthetics also between floor and walls.

“By choosing this raised flooring”, explains Esperanza Romeu, “we have succeeded in having the sought after professional and advance flooring with a refined and elegant aesthetic. The tiles of this type of floor allow for easy handling of the installations that are channelled through the plenum created on the pavement, thus facilitating the layout of the work stations and maximising the use of the space. This floor is easily accessible with no aesthetic sacrifice as its general appearance is of a homogenous, uniform and completely stable surface”.

This project is, without a doubt, a texture rich space that has made use of the raised flooring as a part of its design, taking advantage of the great benefits and functionality that it allows.

The result was a building with an impeccable appearance that will definitely serve, with no problem, all its users and visitors throughout the years.
