GASCO Train D, Egypt — Raised Access Flooring for Critical Gas Processing Infrastructure
Critical energy infrastructure demands the highest levels of structural performance, operational reliability and technical accessibility. In facilities where continuous production is non-negotiable and the consequences of any failure extend far beyond the building itself, every component of the technical infrastructure must be specified to the most exacting standards.
In 2024, Polygroup supplied raised access floor technology for the GASCO Train D project — the fourth production train of the Western Desert Gas Complex in El-Amreya, Alexandria, Egypt. This strategic infrastructure project, developed by the Egyptian Natural Gas Company (GASCO) with ENPPI as consultant and PETROJET as main contractor, adds 600 million cubic feet per day of gas processing capacity to one of Egypt’s most important energy facilities.
For this installation, 1,000 m² of GAMAFLOR PAC 35/05 Heavy with LIDER EXTRANOVO finish were supplied, with a plenum height of 1,100 mm with stringer structure — one of the most technically demanding configurations in the GAMAFLOR range, designed for environments where the underfloor space must accommodate large-diameter pipework, control cabling and instrumentation systems at industrial scale.
GASCO Train D: strategic energy infrastructure for Egypt
The Western Desert Gas Complex has been a cornerstone of Egypt’s natural gas processing industry since its commissioning in 2000. Train D — the complex’s fourth production line — represents a major expansion of this critical facility, increasing its total processing capacity from 950 million cubic feet per day to 1.5 billion cubic feet per day.
The project was awarded to a consortium of ENPPI and PETROJET, two of Egypt’s most experienced engineering and construction companies in the energy sector, and received a “golden licence” from the Egyptian government — a designation reserved for projects of strategic national importance.
Why GAMAFLOR PAC 35/05 Heavy at 1,100 mm
The specification of the GAMAFLOR PAC 35/05 Heavy system at a plenum height of 1,100 mm with stringer structure responds directly to the technical demands of an industrial gas processing environment:
- 1,100 mm plenum height — providing sufficient underfloor space to route large-diameter process pipework, instrumentation cabling and control systems that are integral to the operation of a gas processing train.
- Heavy load classification — the PAC 35/05 Heavy delivers enhanced load capacity, essential in environments where heavy equipment, instrumentation racks and maintenance operations generate significant point loads.
- Stringer structure — the addition of a stringer grid at this height ensures the structural stability of the raised floor system at extreme plenum heights, preventing lateral movement and maintaining panel alignment under dynamic loads.
- LIDER EXTRANOVO finish — a high-performance surface finish designed for industrial environments, providing resistance to heavy traffic, chemicals and the demanding operational conditions of a gas processing facility.
- Full underfloor accessibility — independently removable panels allow rapid access to all installations below the floor without disrupting the operational environment above.
A project delivered through trusted collaboration
The installation was carried out in collaboration with Al-Hamad Establishment, Polygroup’s local partner for this project — whose technical expertise and on-site execution capability were essential to delivering a complex installation at industrial scale in a live construction environment.
This project is a strong example of how Polygroup’s international network of trusted collaborators allows us to deliver technically demanding raised access floor installations in any location, with the same standards of quality and precision as in any other market.
Infrastructure built to last
The GASCO Train D project represents one of Polygroup’s most technically complex installations — combining extreme plenum height, heavy load classification and an industrial-grade finish in one of the most demanding operational environments in the energy sector.
At Polygroup, we work with engineers, contractors and project teams across the energy, oil and gas sector to define the most suitable raised access floor solution for each project — from the initial technical consultation through to supply and installation support.
